Why choose Sheen Electrical?

Sheen Electrical is a family-run business based in Belton, Norfolk. Jamie founded the company after more than a decade as a qualified electrician, and the team has grown steadily on the back of word-of-mouth and a reputation for doing the job properly. Every project we take on benefits from Jamie's hands-on attention.

We're NAPIT registered and Trustmark accredited. That means our work is independently checked, our installations are notified to building control where required, and you're covered by an Insurance-Backed Guarantee. The certifications matter, but they're not what we lead with, what we lead with is showing up when we say we will, doing the job to a high standard, and making sure you're happy before we leave.

Quality matters to us. We use materials we'd put in our own homes. We don't cut corners. We don't upsell. If a problem can be solved with a part swap rather than a full board upgrade, we'll tell you. If we think you're better served by a different scope of work, we'll explain why. That honesty is the only way we know how to run a business.

Jamie grew up here and still lives locally, so there's a genuine connection to the community that goes beyond just turning up to do a job. Whether you're in the village next door or further afield across East Anglia, we treat your home like it was ours, and we leave every property cleaner than we found it.

Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What areas do you cover?

We serve Belton, Great Yarmouth, Norwich, Lowestoft, Gorleston-on-Sea, Beccles and Cromer, plus the wider Norfolk and East Anglia region within roughly 30 miles of NR31. If you're unsure whether you're in our coverage area, give us a call on 07362 252 536 and we'll confirm.

How long have you been trading?

Sheen Electrical was founded by Jamie in late 2023, after he had spent over a decade as a qualified electrician. The business has grown steadily into a team of two full-time engineers on the tools, with Ebony managing client communications behind the scenes.

Are you NAPIT registered?

Yes. We're NAPIT registered and Trustmark accredited, which means our work is independently checked, our installations are notified to building control where required, and you're covered by the Insurance-Backed Guarantee scheme.

What are your working hours?

We operate seven days a week from 08:00 to 20:00 to fit around the working week most of our customers keep. Outside those hours we can usually arrange a call-back the next morning.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes, every quote is free and no-obligation. Call us on 07362 252 536 or send a message via the contact form and we'll come back with a clear, itemised price. For larger jobs we'll always do a site visit before quoting.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfer, all major debit and credit cards, and cash. Payment is normally due on completion. For full rewires and larger jobs we agree a staged payment schedule up front so there are no surprises.

Will the charger connect to my smart EV tariff?

Yes, every charger we install is one of a select few that integrate cleanly with the major smart energy tariffs (Octopus, Intelligent Octopus Go, OVO Drive Anytime). We'll set up auto-scheduling so the unit only draws power when electricity is cheapest.

How long does it take to charge my EV at home?

Our chargers are 7kW, which means 4 to 8 hours for a full charge depending on battery size, and around an hour to add 30 miles of range. That's perfect for overnight charging on a smart tariff.

Which EV chargers do you install?

We install 7kW units from the brands we trust to last and integrate cleanly with smart home setups: Zappi, Ohme, Hypervolt and Wallbox. We'll match the right unit to your car, your tariff and where you want it mounted.

How much does an EV charger installation cost?

Most domestic 7kW EV charger installs land between £900 and £1,500 supplied and fitted. The exact price depends on the distance from your consumer unit to the parking space, whether load management is needed, and which charger you choose.

Can you fit an EV charger if my consumer unit is older?

Often yes, we can add a dedicated RCBO and tap directly off the meter if your existing consumer unit can't safely take an extra circuit. If your board is genuinely past its life we'll quote a small consumer unit upgrade alongside the charger and complete both in one visit.

Does the charger come with a warranty?

Every charger we install carries the manufacturer's warranty, typically three years parts, with some brands extending to five. Our installation workmanship is warranted for 12 months, and the install is notified to building control via NAPIT.

How do I know if my consumer unit needs replacing?

Common signs are an old fuse board with rewireable fuses, frequent tripping, visible scorch marks, or a complete lack of RCD protection. If yours is more than fifteen years old, it's worth getting it inspected even if it appears to be working.

How long does a consumer unit replacement take?

A standard residential swap takes between four and six hours. We'll be in and out the same day, leave you with a clean install, a working test certificate, and the property fully tested before we leave.

What does a new consumer unit cost?

A typical 10 to 14-way RCBO consumer unit fitted is between £700 and £1,000. The price covers the unit, the install, an Electrical Installation Certificate, building-control notification through NAPIT, and disposal of the old board.

Do I need to be at home for the install?

We'd prefer it, there's a power-off period of about three hours and we like to walk you through the new layout before we leave. If you can't be there, a key handover with someone else on site works fine.

Will it pass an EICR?

Yes, every unit we fit is wired to the 18th edition wiring regulations and tested before we sign off. If you're due an EICR within the year we can wrap it into the install at a discounted rate.

What brand of consumer unit do you fit?

We work mainly with Hager, Wylex and Crabtree because their RCBOs are reliable and parts are easy to source if anything ever needs replacing. We're happy to fit a specific brand on request.

What is an EICR?

An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is a thorough inspection of your property's wiring, accessories and consumer unit. We test every circuit, identify any safety issues, and issue a clear report telling you whether the installation is satisfactory or needs work.

Is it a legal requirement?

For landlords, yes, an EICR every five years is a legal requirement under the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector Regulations 2020. For homeowners, it's strongly recommended every 10 years or whenever you buy or sell a property.

How long does an EICR take?

Allow two to three hours for a typical three-bed home. Larger properties or those with multiple consumer units take longer. We try to schedule them around your day so you're not without power for any longer than necessary.

What happens if my EICR is unsatisfactory?

If we find C1 or C2 issues your installation is unsatisfactory by the regs. We'll talk you through what we found, what's required to bring it up to standard, and the cost. We can usually carry out remediation the same week and re-test.

How much does an EICR cost?

Standard domestic EICRs are between £160 and £320 depending on property size and number of circuits. Landlord HMO and commercial properties are quoted on inspection. Free, no-obligation quote on request.

Do you provide the certificate the same day?

We aim to issue the certificate by email within 48 hours of the inspection. The hard copy is available on request and we keep a digital archive of every report.

How do I know if I need a rewire?

If your property is over 40 to 50 years old and hasn't been rewired, or if you see green plasticiser oozing from sockets, frequent tripping or flickering lights, you're probably due. We'll inspect first and tell you honestly whether a full rewire is necessary or whether targeted work would do.

Do I need to move out during a rewire?

It's highly recommended. Rewiring involves chasing into walls, lifting floors and creates a lot of dust. If you stay, expect no power in some rooms and significant disruption. We try to leave at least one usable room with power at the end of each working day.

How long does a full rewire take?

A standard three-bed home is usually a 5 to 10 working day project. Larger or older properties with awkward access can run longer. We'll give you a clear schedule before we start so you can plan accordingly.

What does a full rewire include?

Strip-out of the old wiring, new cabling on every circuit, a brand-new RCBO consumer unit, all sockets and switches replaced, and full testing and certification at the end. Lighting layouts can be revised at the same time at no extra labour.

How much does a full rewire cost?

Most three-bed full rewires fall between £4,000 and £6,000. Larger properties or those with extensive lighting design or commercial elements run higher, we've quoted up to £10,000 for big period homes. Always free, fixed-price quotes after a site visit.

Will you make good after the work?

We chase walls cleanly and patch with bonding plaster ready for skim. Final decoration is best handled by your decorator on top of our patching, but everything we touch we leave clean and ready.

Will LEDs save me money?

Definitely. LEDs use about 80 to 90% less energy than traditional halogen or incandescent bulbs and last significantly longer (up to 25,000 hours), so the energy savings pay back the upgrade cost within a few years.

What kind of lighting do you install?

Everything from individual room replacements through to full-house LED downlight schemes, smart lighting, kitchen task lighting, dimmable bathroom lights, and outdoor and security lighting. We design around the way you actually live in the room.

Can you upgrade my old halogens to LEDs?

Yes, replacing GU10 halogens with modern LED units is one of the most cost-effective upgrades you can make. We check the existing transformer and wiring isn't damaged from the heat first, then swap the bulbs and any faulty fittings.

How much does a lighting upgrade cost?

Simple swap-outs of fittings start from around £200 for a small room. Full kitchen LED downlight schemes are usually £600 to £900 supplied and fitted. Smart lighting set-ups with dimmers and scenes are £700 to £1,000.

Will smart lighting work with my existing setup?

Most likely. We'll design around your existing wiring where possible, with smart switches that work with Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit and the major Hue and Lutron ecosystems.

Can you install bathroom lighting?

Yes, bathroom lighting needs IP-rated fittings and proper zone awareness. We design and install bathroom lighting schemes that meet IP44 / IP65 in zones 1 and 2 as required by the wiring regs.
