Wallbox EV Charger Install in Norwich

The Brief

A homeowner in Norwich had recently taken delivery of a new electric vehicle and needed a home charger installed on the side wall of their property, with a tidy cable run from the consumer unit through the kitchen wall. They wanted a charger that would integrate cleanly with their Octopus Intelligent smart tariff, and they wanted the install completed in a single morning.

What We Did

The job included:

• Site survey: Confirmed the charger position on the side wall, agreed the cable routing through a single internal wall pass, and checked the consumer unit had spare capacity for a new dedicated circuit.
• New dedicated circuit: Added a 32A RCBO to the consumer unit and ran a tidy cable along the internal wall from the kitchen, exiting through a sealed wall pass at the charger position.
• Mounted and wired the Wallbox unit: Fixed the 7kW charger to the external wall, weather-sealed the cable entry, and tested the earth bonding before energising.
• Smart tariff pairing: Walked the homeowner through pairing the Wallbox app with their Octopus account and setting the auto-charge schedule to match the cheap-rate window.
• Tested and certified: Full circuit test, RCD trip-time check, and Electrical Installation Certificate emailed across the same day. Building control notification submitted to NAPIT.

The Result

A clean, weather-sealed 7kW EV charger that cost the homeowner around 7p per kWh on overnight charging, about a third of the cost per mile of the petrol car they'd just sold. The whole job took under five hours from start to walkaway.
